The track features spoken word from well known noted local artists and painters Gronk and Tanner Goldbeck talking about their creative process making art and how they are influenced by Downtown Los Angeles. Besides music from Big Swede, it also features Jimmy Z on harmonica who is known for his work with Eurythmics, Etta James and Rod Stewart.
“I have been inspired by the Historic Core area of Downtown Los Angeles since 2000, when I created a recording studio here,” says Big Swede. “I started to have daily conversations with Gronk and Tanner while having our morning coffee at our local coffee shop Syrup. Talking about music and art but mostly everyday stuff. I had been working on an upcoming album recently, BS In A Downtown Lounge, influenced by Downtown and got the idea featuring Gronk and Tanner on a track.”
The video mixes art with music and features the creative vibe and energy of the Downtown Los Angeles art scene. Gronk, Tanner and Big Swede all have their creative spaces on Spring Street in the heart of the Historic Core District, which is also home to the monthly Downtown Art Walk.
“For me it’s looking at the city almost as if I were in a Fellini movie, Satyricon,” says Gronk.
“I do get a lot of inspiration from being Downtown. You get a lot of extremes and it’s all mashed together right here for us to watch and be inspired by,” continues Tanner.
“The track has an urban feel to it and I thought it would be an interesting mix to have Jimmy Z play harmonica on it. It’s so unpredictable,” laughs Big Swede.
The video was directed by Big Swede and Rush Varela ( a photographer residing in Downtown LA). Editing was by Tim Hogarth (Post-producer and editor for many reality shows, including Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Real World, Dash Dolls, etc).
